“Sicuramente anche in ambito ebraico, soprattutto nel cosiddetto ebraismo assimilato, emerge il desiderio di mostrarsi al mondo; sfoggiando le proprie collezioni, costituite soprattutto da oggetti d’uso sinagogale o di ritualità familiare, gli ebrei si sentono membri attivi e emancipati della società. Corone in argento, pinnacoli, libri e paramenti acquistano così la caratteristica di manufatto artistico, che trova la propria collocazione in spazi ben organizzati, con finalità anche didattiche. […] I musei ebraici italiani, fatta eccezione per il museo di Livorno, appartengono invece a quel processo di ricostruzione e di volontà di testimonianza, che si configura all’interno delle Comunità ebraiche nell’immediato dopoguerra. Nel 1954 nasce a Venezia il museo ebraico, seguito negli anni Sessanta da Roma e successivamente da altre città”.

“Undoubtedly Judaism, above all the so-called ‘progressive’ or ‘assimilated’ Judaism, was influenced by this development and a desire arose show themselves to the world, to show off their own collections, composed for the most part of objects of worship or family ritual. In this way the Jews felt as active and emancipated members of society. Silver crowns and finials, books and vestments assumed the character of objets d’art to be appropriately arranged in a formal space, also with an educational scope. […] Italy’s Jewish museums, with the exception of the Livorno museum, belong instead to the process of reconstruction and the need to bear witness that was widespread in the Jewish community in the aftermath of the Second World War. In 1954 the Jewish Museum in Venice was founded, followed in the 1960s by Rome and later by other cities”.
